Co-sponsored by Venice International University (VIU) of Italy, Institutions of Chinart, MOCA Shanghai (Museum of Contemporary Art- Shanghai), the art exhibition titled "A Gift to Marco Polo" will be opened on June 3, 2009, in  Isola San Servolo,Venice - hometown of famous traveler Marco Polo. As a Collateral Event for 53rd Biennale di Venezia, we are inviting nine prestigious Chinese artists: Zhang Xiaogang, Zhou Chunya, He Duoling, Wang Guangyi, Fang Lijun, Yue Minjun, Zhang Peili, Wu Shanzhuan and Ye Fang. While presenting an offering at the Excellency Marco Polo, these artists still are trying each of their own ways to build up some kind of cultural exchanges between East and West beyond the complex historical relations, as a tribute for Marco Polo’s very early concern on the Oriental world. By a most contemporary Chinese way, their artworks also express Chinese understanding and knowledge in Italian art, European culture, as well as Western civilization, at the same time showing what is the East of now, and what is China today in their eyes.
